What is Autism Spectrum Disorder?
Autism is a disorder that refers to a challenges in social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. Autism is referred to a spectrum because it displays a wide variety of variation in strengths and challenges and is different in every individual. Signs typically appear between 2 and 3 years of age, although it can be diagnosed as early as 18 months.
Early intervention is the best step towards treatment. The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) is used by Dr. Salinas to provide the most comprehensive treatment available. Workshops, social skills groups, speech and communication training and support groups for children and parents alike are available. Dr. Salinas is working towards creating art therapy in the community to integrate those with developmental disorders into social settings.

“Pediatric Neuropsychologists have a strong understanding of normal developmental stages in language and learning. This is especially important in assessing Autism because symptoms evolve over time. In addition to the complicated evolution of a disorder, adolescents and adults may mask, or compensate, for their weaknesses with psychiatric conditons including anxiety, depression, tics, or simple defensive responses” . http://www.neurodevelop.com/Autism_Testing
